Mountlake Terrace Municipal Code Nuisance regulations.

You may report or inquire about the condition of a property in person, by phone or online.

If you leave a message, please include specific details about the location and condition of the property. If you want to remain anonymous, you may request non-disclosure.

Once a case has been opened on a property, Code Enforcement Officers work with the property owners to gain compliance. Generally this is voluntary and completed in a timely manner.

If the property owner chooses not to comply or has extenuating circumstances, progress may be slow or not evident for a period of time. You may contact Code Enforcement for updated information on a case.

All citizens are given reasonable due process to abate the nuisance dependent on the urgency of the condition.

Notice of Nuisance Properties

If you have received a Voluntary Compliance Agreement, you will have been given specific details about the condition that needs to be remedied and a time frame within which to comply. This agreement is between the owner/occupant and the City on specific violations occurring, corrections necessary, and required timeframes in which to make the corrections.

Failure to abide by the agreement could result in a Notice of Violation being issued. Notice of Violation orders are legal notices of pending punitive action should the violations listed not be corrected.  Penalties could include civil infractions, daily fines, or a court ordered abatement action.
