Karissa Richards, Chair
I have been a resident of the City of Mountlake Terrace for 7 years. I am a mom of 4 kids who all attend schools in the Edmonds School District. I am committed to creating a community where my children and all of our children feel they belong, are heard, and seen. My goals for the DEIC are to open the conversation and create change around diversity, equity, and inclusion in all areas of the city that impact the lives of the people in our community.
Saboora Deen, Vice Chair
My purpose in joining the DEIC was to build a foundation of norms for minorities, of every age, so every generation after will continue to build a community of balance.
I have been a Mountlake Terrace resident since 2013.
One of my goals is to incorporate DEI advancements into all of the educational institutions in our city.
Samatra (Sam) Doyle has lived in Mountlake Terrace since 2012, and works as an oncology ARNP. She is married to a law enforcement officer and has three kids in the Edmonds School District. As a QPOC (queer person of color), she joined the DEI Commission in order to promote diversity and proactive inclusiveness of all cultures and communities, to broaden access to services, increase level of awareness, and ultimately improve the lives of all Mountlake Terrace residents.
Hannah Meier is a Speech Therapist for a local non-profit. She has lived in Mountlake Terrace for approximately 9 years. During that time she has attended numerous diversity, equity and inclusion trainings, conferences and workshops, including Step Up, hosted by Leadership Snohomish County. She hopes to encourage the community at large to seek out the history of our city, challenge harmful systems and build new systems that center historically marginalized communities.
Originally from India, Rohit has been in the greater Seattle area since 2012 and a resident of Mountlake Terrace since 2015. He lives here with his wife and son. His goals as part of the DEIC are to: 1) work with city businesses to ensure workplace DEI becomes a priority for small, medium, and large businesses; 2) work with the city departments and the police department to ensure DEI is a priority and all DEI related initiatives are easily accessible to the community; and 3) work with the DEIC commissioners to make their work in the next 1-3 years successful and impactful.
William Paige Jr.
William and his wife Ellen moved to Mountlake Terrace in April of 2020 from Shoreline where he transports special needs children to and from school. William has spent most of his life in the Northeast where he retired from UPS management after a 35-year career. He has been a pioneer in DEI since high school and has had an integral part in creating both Equity and Inclusion both at UPS as well as in the community by sitting on Boards such as United Way, Rotary, and Higher Education Advisory Committees. During his term, two of the goals he has been working on are 1). Greater policy transparency within the MLT police force, improving minority presence and create greater development of oneness with the diverse community of Mountlake Terrace. 2). Develop an alliance between the DEIC and the various diverse “Influencer” groups in the city to enable all citizens to feel that they have equal voices and access to city information.
