The City of Mountlake Terrace has been contracting with South County Fire to provide fire and emergency medical services to the city since 2005. Under the terms of the Interlocal Agreement, South County Fire staffs the city's fire station.

South County Fire is the largest provider of fire and emergency medical services in Snohomish County, serving more than 250,000 residents in unincorporated areas and the cities of Brier, Edmonds, Lynnwood and Mountlake Terrace.

Specially trained teams of firefighters also respond to hazardous materials incidents and technical rescue calls. Approximately 80% of the department calls are for medical aid.

Station 19

In 2006, Fire Station #19 was relocated from inside City Hall to a newly constructed facility located just north of the Police Station at 5902 232nd Street SW, Mountlake Terrace.

The station is staffed 24 hours per day with one Fire Captain, one Firefighter/Paramedic, and one Firefighter/Emergency Medical Technician. The Fire Chief of South County Fire is designated as the City's Fire Chief and the District also provides the City with a designated Fire Marshal.

Station 18

South County Fire opened a new Fire Station #18, located at 21206 Poplar Way in Brier, in 2010. The former Fire Station 18, located in eastern Mountlake Terrace was demolished and Firefighters Memorial Park was expanded where the station once stood.
