Project Overview

Ballinger Park is a 55-acre regional park in an urban neighborhood, located adjacent to I-5, in the rapidly growing, transit-oriented, community of Mountlake Terrace on the border of King and Snohomish Counties. Ballinger Park is adjacent to Sound Transit’s Lynnwood Link Light Rail Extension Project, expected to be completed in 2024, and the Interurban and Lakeview Trails. Much of the park was a city-owned golf course that was converted to a passive park in 2012. The city completed the Ballinger Park Master Plan for the park in 2015.

The existing playground at Ballinger Park is located south of the playfield. This playground is one of the oldest in the parks system and plans call for it to be removed with a splash pad installed in its place in the future. The Ballinger Park Master Plan denotes that a new playground is to be constructed south near the boat launch. The city applied for grant funding from the Hazel Miller Foundation, receiving $250,000, and matching funding from the Land Water Conservation Fund administered by the National Park Service and Recreation Conservation Office. The new universally accessible playground has been constructed and is now open to the public.
