Bryan has lived in Mountlake Terrace since 1997. As a small business owner, establishing Wahl and Associates: Public Affairs Strategies in 1991, Bryan has the unique capability to develop innovative solutions and the necessary skills to reach consensus. He has a strong understanding and appreciation for the state and local government process and public policies, experience researching and analyzing legislative issues, and the ability to maintain effective working relationships.
After serving on the Planning Commission for 14 years, Bryan was appointed to the Mountlake Terrace City Council in 2012 and elected to his current position in 2013. As a City Councilmember, Bryan’s priorities include policies that increase our jobs and economic vitality, improve quality of life, and ensure responsible and sustainable budgets that direct resources efficiently and effectively to achieve the city’s goals. Bryan helped develop the city’s Comprehensive Plan and vision for how the community will grow, and helped revise the planning policies and development regulations to implement the community’s vision and encourage economic vitality.
Bryan currently serves as the Mayor Pro Tem, and on the City’s Vision Committee (2018-present) and Board and Commission Interview Committee (2022-present). He also serves on the Puget Sound Regional Council’s Executive Board (1/14-present) and Growth Management Policy Board (2003-14, 2020-present), Snohomish County Tomorrow’s Steering Committee (2017-present), and Snohomish County Cities Executive Board (2013-present). Previously, Bryan served on the City’s Finance Committee (2013-20) and Snohomish County’s Housing and Community Development Advisory Board, Snohomish County Affordable Housing Alliance, Economic Alliance of Snohomish County’s Advocacy Board (2013-2020), and the Puget Sound Regional Council’s Housing Innovations Program Advisory Committee (2007-10), Regional Transit-Oriented Development Advisory Committee (2013-21) and the Vision Awards Selection Committee (2007, 2022).
In his roles, Bryan has been involved with numerous regional issues and adopted regional policies and strategies for addressing growth management, transportation/infrastructure, housing, economic development and diversity/equity (Vision 2040 and 2050, Regional Transportation Plan, Regional Housing Strategy, Regional Equity Strategy) and has helped address the challenges our communities face in managing growth, providing housing, ensuring diversity and equity, enhancing our quality of life, and encouraging the jobs and amenities that come with growth.
